There’s no safer place to put your marketing budget than in the hands of an experienced video production company. Video production is one of the most popular and effective forms of marketing a business. So it makes sense that we’re seeing more and more video production companies popping up every year.

This makes the market highly saturated and means it can be very difficult to sift out the highly experienced video production companies from all the inexperienced start-ups.

That said, there are certain things to look out for to help make sure you’re hiring the most experienced company for the job.

CHECK THEIR SOCIAL CHANNELS

A good rule of thumb to assess how experienced they are is to check their social media channels. If it’s full of genuine BTS photos from lots of other shoots and projects, you can be sure they’re legit.

If it’s empty or full of stock imagery then that could be a bit of a red flag. Experienced and busy video production companies will have an active social media presence where you can see all the kinds of projects they’re working on.

WHO HAVE THEY WORKED WITH?

A good yardstick for measuring a company’s experience level is who they have worked with. If they’ve worked for big FTSE 100 companies like Dell and Oracle, then that’s a good sign that they know their stuff.

If they don’t have a client list or it’s mostly small, unknown companies, then maybe they don’t have the experience to handle your project.

CHECK THEIR GOOGLE REVIEWS

Don’t just take their word for it, see what their clients are saying too. 5-start reviews on Google are a great endorsement and is a good indicator they know what they’re doing.

HAVE THEY GOT A GOOD PORTFOLIO

We’d also recommend having a look at their portfolio of examples. What’s the production value like? Do the videos achieve what they’re trying to do? Do they engage you?

Don’t worry about looking for an exact copy of the kind of video you want. But definitely try and figure out if they can do your brand justice.

CHECK THEIR TEAM PAGE

Finally, have a look at their website for a team page. Start-ups or one-man bands often won’t have a team page because, well, they don’t have a team. That’s all well and good, but sometimes projects call for multiple experienced heads to get them done on time and on budget.
